This Property Rights Advocate is intended to strengthen landowner interests as energy and infrastructure development continues to grow in our Province.

Bill 6, or the Property Rights Advocate Act, is designed to support the government’s position that landowners must have recourse to an independent tribunal, the courts, or both for the purpose of determining full and fair compensation for access to their land. A Property Rights Advocate Office would report to the minister of justice and share independent and impartial information about property rights and help determine the appropriate resolution mechanism including the courts.

As IRWA Chapter 48 membership is comprised mostly of licenced land agents, surveyors, and other professionals who acquire interests in land for energy development, we will very likely to be the first to encounter this new advocacy office in our daily business.

Join us Monday May 28th at the Palliser for one of the first public presentations regarding Bill 6 and the Property Rights Advocate to hear how this will impact you, and have your questions answered regarding this new approach to surface rights in Alberta
